Thanks to Conservative Scalawag for pointing this one out to me. Taurus has come out with a new polymer frame 5-shot revolver, apparently to compete with the Ruger LCR and slew of other light-weight 5-shots put out by S&W.
But here's what I don't get, why does it need to be so damn light? Who is fueling the desire for companies to design these guns? I just don't get it. I'm not a small guy, in fact at 5'11" and 190lbs. I'm larger then the average American, maybe that's what it is, yeah, so you need a lighter gun. But that brings it's own set of problems, increased recoil. Whenever you up the power delivery, or shrink the weight, felt recoil goes up.
In my beloved Corps I carried a M9, it weighed about 2 1/2 pounds loaded, and you know what, I constantly forgot that I was even carrying it around, and I still do that every day when I shove my pistol down in it's pocket.
So men, and a few women, get over the weight of your gun, in fact, take pride in the hearty weight of your CC gun, it'll help you get that second shot down range at whatever criminal you're putting down.

Shoulda Had a Gun
Two men robbed a Subway sandwich shop in Marietta.
Too bad Subway International has a policy that prevents employees and managment from having weapons inside the store, never would have happened if they had been able to defend themselves.
And a case of had a gun:
A man robbing a liquor store got a nasty .45 inch surprise from the owner.
Thank you for defending your rights.

Should Have Had a Gun
I'm going to try to do one of these every day.
Today in Atlanta the owner of Ermy’s Hair Salon was shot multiple times after getting into a fight with an unknown man.
He would have lived if he had been able to present a firearm.

Why wern't you armed?
A pawn shop employee in Clayton County was shot today in an attempted robbery.
I visit local Cobb pawn shops quiet often looking for good deals on firearms and scrap gold, never have I been to one where every employee wasn't packing...maybe he should have taken notice to his coworkers.

New Orleans is corrupt, police in the right this time
The family of a man shot to death by a group of New Orleans police officers are sueing the department for wrongful death.
The confrontation happened when a shooting was reported at a club, Grimes (the accused) was pulled over for a felony stop and fired a shot at police, the group of police officers opened fire, hitting him 10 times (9 in the back).
Look, Darwin at work again, only the strong (sometimes in the mind) survive, shoot at a group of people that outnumber you heavily and you will die.
PS Sorry, I lost the origional link.

Time at the Range, Good and Bad
Got to the private range, getting excited, go into the locker room and change into some better suited gear. I decide that first I'm gonna go to the 100 yard range to do a quick zero in of the rifle and find out what ammunition will work best with it (I do this with every new firearm). I test out different lines within Hornady, Black Hills, and Wolf. I settle on Hornady TAP 60 gr, it seems to have the best mix of felt recoil, and follow-up accuracy. So I go back to the from desk, see that one of the live boxes is empty at the moment, sign into it, and change my gear once again. I put on a thigh rig for my XD and attach a single point sling to the adjustable stock on the AR, load up 6 magazines, and take 10 rounds out of one of the magazines at random.
Note: At this point I am wearing a polo shirt that labels me as a youth instructor for this particular facility, aswell as a shooting jacket that has quite a few patches including, an old MOS patch, a usmc patch, the patch for the range I'm at, a CorBon patch, and among others, a patch for one of my former Contractor employers, this is the one that would get me in trouble...
I walk out to my new area, it is a 50X50 yard square with 12-15 foot high berms and a small shack in one corner with an assortment of different colored lights (to indicate whether it is safe to enter), a phone for calling the senior range officer, the entrance to the area, and racks of set-up gear so you can arrange your live shoot how you would like.
I go through the first and second magazines fine, still suprised at how low the recoil is, but at the same time finding realizing that the fifle is quite loud due to the shortened barrel. I load up the 3rd magazine, deciding to due a quick reload when I deplete it...I load up the 4th magazine, squeezing off the rounds as quickly as I can, and then it happens, it's the short magazine..I pause for what feels like an eternity, but in reality is less than a second, I drop the rifle, relying on the sling to catch it, I transition to the XD and pop 2 rounds into my current target, spin around and there it is, standing next to my newest target, a living, breathing human, my heart skips a beat, I hoster my pistol and I let out a round of Expletives at the new person and walk to the entrance shack picking up the phone, it rings two times and I angrily request the senior range officer on duty come to my live box. And I head over to talk to the man.
Let's call this guy Jimbo...
Jimbo,"I was in the Army."
"What the fuck are you doing in my box, I could have killed you."
Jimbo, "I saw your patch for generic contracting company, I'm not a big fan of you boys, damn mercs..."
(Enter range officer, it's the owner Chris)
Chris, "What's going on El Sid?"
"This guy walked into a box, almost shot him when I moved to a new target."
Chris, "Was the green light on?" (Green means safe to enter)
"No, red, I turned on yellow when I called you."
Chris, "Jimbo?"
Jimbo, "Look at his insignia, he shouldn't even be in here."
I look at him confused.
Chris, "What the hell are you talking about?"
Jimbo, "He's a fucking mercenary..."
At this point my hearth sank, I hadn't been confronted with this demon in a long time, here was another misinformed, ignorant man confusing contractors and mercenaries. (I'll go into this further in my next post)
Chris, "Jimbo, go to the membership office."
Jimbo, "Why?"
Chris, "Just fucking go!"
I followed chris up to the front desk, and filled out some quick complaint forms, citing the ranges 3rd safety rule: DO NOT enter any range shown to be in use
Jimbo, who has only been a member for a few weeks is permanetly banned from the club, his entire first years payment forfieted due to breaking a safety rule. Chris apologizes and assures me it won't happen again.
I head home, and spend the next few hours cleaning...

Orlando Wants a New Brady Bill
The mayor, chief of police, and state senator of Orlando Fla all want a new Assault Weapon Ban put into place. I looked at the article from the Orlando Sentinel and saw some legitmate ideas that go with it, like a rise in crime since the sunset...and then I read a little bit farther. The article said things like this:
"'No one is trying to trample on Second Amendment rights:" Wrong the 2nd ammendment exists to protect us from eachother, an invading force, and our own goverment if we see fit. And let's not forget the loophole that alot of liberals like to bring up about the 2nd ammendment only applying to members of the militia, well I have news for you, every male between the age of 17 and 45 is a legal member of the militia and must report if called upon.
"two killers fired 58 rounds from two AK-47s during a gunfight in Pine Hills that left two men dead:" Let's see here, gunfight, between criminals, sounds like a something that would have happened whether you had a rifle or handgun that could only fire 10 rounds, or an AK that can hold 30, I've been in firefights overseas, and here in the US, 3 rounds are just as deadly as 30 if they are all going towards one target.
"Don't write in a sunset provision this time:" Just incase you didn't pay attention when the Brady Bill passed the first time, it won by 3 votes, before the sunset was added it could not have passed, and even then it just barely passed, with only a handfull of republicans approving, and quiet a few democrats voting Nea.
"There's no need for ordinary citizens to be armed with such lethal firepower. Hunters don't need them. Gun-toting urbanites don't need them, either:" Just refer up to my comments about the 2nd ammendment.
So basically a state that has some of the easiest to comply with, but at the same time heavyist punishment for going out of bounds, laws on guns, we could be seeing a major change to something like California or New York City, plus I'll be pissed if they try to take away my non-resident CCW from Fla.

APD Hires Criminals
Okay, so I'm really not that upset about the fact that Atlanta Police Department is hiring people who have a misdemeanor record. What bothers me is some legislation that kinda ties into this.
Check this out: Title 16, Chapter 9, Public Law 129, it's about the issueance of concealed carry liscenses in the state of Georgia to it's resident's. Here's a quick little excerpt: "any person who has been convicted of a violation of Code Section 16-11-126, 16-11-127, or 16-11-128...shall not be granted a permit," basically what it means is that anyone who open carries without a permit, or conceal carries without a permit, can never get a ccw.
So what APD is saying is that even though Calvin Thomas was convicted of a No-CCW charge, and thus can never legally carry a firearm in public in this state since he cannot get a permit, he can get a job as a cop...where he will carry a gun every day...and legally carry without a permit... in APD, arguably on of the most corrupt deparments in the US.
Just my 2 cents, either kick the guy out because it is acctually against state law for him to do it, or fix the law, so people can fix the problems they have had in their past.

Defensive Shotgun
I was reading through Xavier's blog and happened upon this.
Very informative, and can't say I don't agree, for home protection I have a Mossberg 500 with a 14" barrel (yes I have a SBR stamp) and an adjustable stock, this allows both me and my wife (who has much shorter reach) to use the same weapon.

Basic Gun Safety Saves Lives
Playing with a gun in a car is a bad idea.
Especially when it is loaded...
and you are pointing it at someone in the front seat...
and the car is moving...
Oh yeah, and your 16, no state allows you to possess one, sucks to be you, you'll be in jail until 21 for manslaughter and cc.
Too bad this is gonna give bad press to the already bad off industry in the Atlanta Metro area.
